Finding Stability in Health: My Journey from Chaos to Calm

I’m sitting in my living room in Singapore, watching the hot, sunny days that we get all year round. My two older kids are exploring YouTube Kids during their one-hour screen time (yeah, I know...), while my 2-year-old naps in the bedroom. My littlest, a 5-month-old, is crawling and exploring on our carpet. And here I am, typing this blog, wondering if we’re modeling too much screen time.

But unlike before, I don’t rush to fix my discomfort. I now have the nervous system capacity to sit with it. I no longer feel the need to rage clean the house to feel better about myself.

From Survival Mode to Stability

There were points in my life that were much more chaotic, where I was actually comfortable in survival mode. I would have found peace and calm boring. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to maintain this kind of arrangement—everyone healthy and thriving—let alone function without hormonal mood swings just five months after having my fourth baby.

Neil can tell you about those times. After my third baby, I still experienced a lot of mood swings and had my share of adult meltdowns. But what I’ve come to realize is how a stable life pivots on stable health.

The Long Road to Vibrancy

Some might say we’re blessed or lucky, but it took years of intentional work on physical and mental stability. Years of moving on from toxic cycles of generational trauma. Decades of layering these steps over and over again:

  • Building a Strong and Safe Body: This breeds confidence, courage, and resilience of mind.
  • Nutrients, Hormones, Gut Health, Detox, and Liver Health: Focused work in these areas made a significant difference.
  • Creating a Supportive Environment: Better decisions led to a more supportive environment for my personal growth.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Trauma and Dysfunction: Working myself out of repeated burnout was crucial.

My Health Journey

I used to struggle with poor skin, increasing allergies, fungal infections, verrucas, and no real menstrual cycles. I even had a pre-cancerous change on my cervix. My immunity was clearly impacted, and I’m glad I didn’t wait too long to take action.

Starting with my physical body, I made smart changes (the same ones I take you through in Kickstart Your Immunity). I saw natural energy, focus, and calm return. I then focused on balancing my hormones—Cortisol, Thyroid, Insulin, Estrogen, and Progesterone—and rewiring my nervous system. Followed by gut health improvements (taught in the Level 1 program after Kickstart).

The Results of Consistent Effort

After years of cycling through these processes and deepening the practice, I now exist without the need for a cupboard full of supplements. My doula, who watched me homebirth four babies, even commented that I’ve reverse-aged. The confidence that comes with not having a chronic disease and not worrying about when my body will break down is priceless.

This clarity has allowed me to plan our lives out of the 9-5 grind, travel more, homeschool, welcome kids into our family, and make financial decisions to afford help.
